What Guides Us

We would not be a children's brand if we did not care about every child.

  • Vital and Imaginative Learning. Digital citizenship is a foundational skill that is frequently under-taught. Educational books and materials, when they do exist, often fail to engage children's imaginations. Little Rights bridges both gaps with stories that are accessible, age-appropriate, and magical.

  • Empathy and Critical Thinking. Our lesson plans and stories teach critical thinking and social-emotional learning. Empathy, compassion, and analytical thinking are essential for future generations to develop their own agency and build healthy social relationships. Children navigating algorithms and AI receive information about who they should be, what they should buy, and what they should share, often before they have had the chance to develop their own identity. They deserve to know their rights over their own information.

  • Children's Privacy First. We value children's privacy online and limit the exposure of children's personal information in our content and partnerships. Children can not consent to digital footprints being built on their behalf. And in an age of AI and deepfakes, facial privacy is more urgent than ever. Our children deserve autonomy over how they are portrayed.

  • Human Creativity and Integrity. We understand AI has real uses, but we prefer partnerships with authors, artists, and content creators who do not predominantly use AI in their work. We support only human creators, never artificially generated online personas. In a time of widespread online misinformation, we value integrity above virality. We partner with creators who care about the accuracy of their content.

  • Equity and Access for All. We believe diverse and inclusive communities lead to a healthier, happier, and more innovative future. We also know that many students in the United States lack access to the resources their classrooms need, and that millions of children face discrimination and bullying. While we believe in strengthening our public schools, we also believe that education, especially in digital citizenship, must reach every child regardless of where they live or what their family can afford. We are committed to sharing knowledge with children of every background, in our own neighborhoods and around the world. In that endeavor, we seek partnerships with educational nonprofits doing this work.

  • Belonging for Every Family. We make our curriculum and lesson plans for homeschooling, private school, and public school families alike. Our digital citizenship education is secular and welcomes children of every background, religious or non-religious. We support LGBTQIA+ children, families, and individuals. We partner only with organizations, religious or secular, that share these values.

  • Accessibility and Neurodiversity. We design our work to be accessible for children with disabilities or mental health conditions. Our learning environments are calmer by default because many children experience anxiety that we cannot see from the outside. Knowing what social media can do to young minds, our social channels are designed primarily for adult use. We consult with special education teachers and other professionals, so our stories and curriculum work for neurodivergent children. Neurodiversity refers to the natural variation in how brains develop and work. It includes children with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and other brain-based differences, and is sometimes understood to include OCD and other disorders.

  • Respect for Educators. We are grateful for the services provided by dedicated grade school teachers, special education teachers, educators, and librarians, who are frequently underpaid and undervalued for the work they do for children. We value the expertise and insights of these professionals, and intentionally integrate them into our work.

  • Inquiry-Driven Learning. We believe that digital literacy is not a set of static rules to memorize, but a living landscape to explore. Our instruction is driven by inquiry, deliberately shifting away from traditional lectures and passive recall. Instead, we guide children to investigate real-world digital ideas through open questions, creative multi-modal expression, and deeply integrated reflection. By exploring the digital phenomena impacting their everyday lives, young learners cultivate the agency, critical awareness, and ethical insight required to navigate an ever-evolving world.

  • Environmental Responsibility. In our stories, we encourage children to reconnect with the natural world and develop an appreciation for the ways it sustains our lives. We care about children's futures and the health of our planet, and are committed to building our small business with sustainability and environmental responsibility in mind.
